What to expect

Appointment Times

Appointments are usually 15 - 30 minutes long, although initially one longer appointment may be required to put on all the braces. Subsequent visits are generally at six - eight week intervals. At Impression Orthodontics, appointments are made at convenient times as far as possible, but parents should be aware that some appointments may need to be made during school hours.

First appointment

Our first appointment with you is mainly to meet and ascertain your goals and aspirations of orthodontic treatment.

The Orthodontist will carry out a thorough examination, including measurements of your teeth, face and jaw joints. We will then discuss potential treatment options, if you are ready and suitable for treatment.

There are three common outcomes from your initial examination:

  • Treatment is not required
  • Treatment is advisable, but should be delayed until dental and facial growth is most appropriate for treatment to occur
  • Treatment is recommended, and it is best to proceed now

If it is established that treatment will be required for you then will give you the option of having diagnostic records performed, depending on your needs.

Diagnostic records include digital extra and intraoral photographs. Digital study models and x-rays.

Diagnostic records costs are as follows:

  • Digital photographs: $50
  • Study models: $80
  • X-rays: $0

We will recommend a local x-ray clinic that will bulk bill you because your one of our very special patients!

Second appointment

Diagnostic Evaluation and Treatment Planning ($45)

This is carried out before treatment starts, to assess the type of orthodontic problem, the treatment procedures indicated and the fees involved. Prior to this visit, the diagnostic records will have been evaluated and an in-depth analysis made. A detailed explanation of the problems present will be given to you and your dentist, prior to any treatment being agreed, so that you will be able to fully participate in the decision-making process. At each stage you will be advised in advance of all procedures and any potential fees involved.

You will have the opportunity at each appointment to discuss the progress of treatment, if you should so wish.
